Do you ever miss the days when you could go sit in Santa’s lap, tell him what you wanted, and when you woke up on Christmas mornin, it would be under the tree? Boy, I do! I remember one time my sister and I went to see Santa and she told him his breath stunk! It’s funny now, but I remember thinkin ” Dang you Melissa!! Now we won’t get any of the good stuff we asked for!”
I hate to admit this, but I’ve been guilty of treating God like Santa Clause. Asking Him for something, and thinking if I was “good” enough, I should get it. THEN get mad at Him when I don’t. I mean, I read my bible for x amount of minutes. I prayed for everyone in the prayer list. I always go to church and serve any time they ask. Listen, you can do all the good in the world, but if your motive behind doin good is only to get something, that’s called manipulation! We should want to do, and be good out of love for Christ. We don’t “earn” God’s love… He loves us unconditionally! He’s not like Santa.. If you’re a good girl all year you get toys. He gives us what we NEED when we need it, and not because we deserve it! Today, and every day… I’m goin to check my motives!
If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. 1 Corinthians 13:1-3
