I Don’t Belong

Have you ever felt like you didn’t belong? I spent the majority of my life with a looming feeling that I just didn’t fit in, or that I wasn’t good enough.

If you just looked at my life, you might think that sounds crazy. I had lots of friends, made decent grades (when I wanted to), played a mean trumpet :-). My point is, from the outside, one might think I was ok, but I wasn’t. I can’t describe the feeling. It’s like loneliness but worse, because you’re not actually alone.

There were dreams I had, things I wanted to do, that I never pursued because frankly, I thought that really good things were for someone else.
That feeling often leads to drug and alcohol abuse, sexual promiscuity, failed relationships, money problems, the list goes on and on.

Do you know why so many people, even “successful” people, live their lives with this feeling haunting them? Because no matter what your beliefs, you were created by, and for The Lord (Colossians 1:16).

I was 33 years old before I realized I needed The Lord. Once I realized that, that feeling went away. I didn’t feel lonely and wasn’t afraid to be alone. Nor was I afraid to do things I wanted to do and why not? Because my goal was to please God! Perfect love casts out all fear (1John 4:18).

Don’t live your life not doing whatever it is God created you to do. It’s never too late! Think about it like this…if you feel like you don’t belong, maybe it’s because you don’t! Maybe God is calling you to be set apart. Maybe God is calling you to do a great thing for Him.

You can get rid of that feeling by asking Jesus into your heart. He can fill that empty space and rid you of that lonely feeling. He can show you what it is He has for you to do.

If you already know Him and have this feeling, chances are you’re not doing what He wants you to do. Get busy finding out what He wants you to do. That’s when you’ll really be living.
