Come On In! I’m Forgiven

When I was a teenager, one of my best friends was a guy named Kenny. He was, and still is, one if the funniest people I know.

I had started dating this guy, and like all guys I dated, they had to have the “Kenny stamp of approval”. So, I took the guy to Kenny’s house, knocked on the door, and his mom answered. She told us that Kenny was downstairs just to go on down. I knocked on the door, he opened it, I said “hey!” And before I could get any thing else out of my mouth , he said, ” Hey! Come on in, I just farted!”

We all just stood there for a second, as I thought to myself, “My, how inviting, we get to marinate in Kenny’s fart.” We eventually went in and had a good time.

Later I asked Kenny why he said that. He said “I didn’t want that guy to think our house always smelled like that.” I thought that was a good point

Have you ever caught yourself in a situation in which you felt the need to defend yourself? I know I have. The one time you have too much to drink at a company gathering, or the time you tell an off-color joke, and realize the preacher heard you.

As a Christian, it seems there can be a lot of pressure at times to be so good, and when you mess up, if you’re like me, you beat yourself up for days. The good news is, we don’t have to do that! All we need to do is ask for forgiveness and it’s ours. Well, that and apologize to people if necessary.

Thankfully, God’s word says, there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1. We are going to screw up, we’re human. When we do, let’s not beat ourselves up and let the enemy feed us a bunch of lies. Let’s make it right and move on! God still has work for us to do.

Just like Kenny didn’t want people to think his house always smelled like a fart. When we screw up, we don’t want people to think we’re always like that. Don’t worry, God is our redeemer and He’ll take care of you! Now, if you happen to pass gas and guests arrive? You’re on your own!
