Who’s Your Daddy

Do you realize that what largely shapes your view of God, is your view of your earthly father? Our fathers are supposed to be here to be the image of Christ. To teach us how to love and be loved. To have a healthy fear of discipline. To be the head of the household, the disciplinarian and decision maker.

The purpose of our earthly fathers is to imitate God. If that’s not how it was in your home then you may have a distorted view of God. Maybe your dad wasn’t loving. Maybe you never saw him as your protector. Maybe he was abusive in some way. Maybe he never told you that you were beautiful or that he was proud of you. Maybe he was a good dad, but just not godly (yes there’s a difference). Just because one takes their children to church doesn’t mean they are godly. Or maybe he just wasn’t there.

It’s something a lot of men and women struggle with. Because their dads didn’t teach them the character of God, they may see God as some aloof, far away god who does good things, but only for everyone else. Maybe you think God is someone you call on when you’re in trouble, or someone who doesn’t care about your daily life. Maybe, instead of feeling like a child of the King, you view yourself as the foster child waiting for someone to give you a permanent home.

It’s almost impossible for our small human minds to comprehend the capacity of love that Christ has for us. How that, when He looks at us He doesn’t see our flaws, He sees us as pure, spotless and beautiful. His love is not something that has to be earned. You’ll never do enough good to earn it and you’ll never be bad enough for Him to withhold His love. And He never disciplines us out of anger, but out of love.

If this is something you struggle with, and I’m sure most of us have at some point in some way, start getting to know our Savior. 1 John 3:1 in The Message Bible says, What marvelous love the Father has extended to us! Just look at it—we’re called children of God! That’s who we really are. But that’s also why the world doesn’t recognize us or take us seriously, because it has no idea who He is or what He’s up to. That means we can call Him daddy!

Worldly views are just about always contradictory to God’s views. That’s why it’s so important to be in His word and to communicate with Him. Throw religion out the window and start a relationship! Live a free, abundant life through Christ.

Here are a few verses to read to help you understand Christ’s love for us and who we are in Him.
Psalms 139:13-16
1Peter 2:9
Jeremiah 29:11
Ephesians 1:4-5
Ephesians 2:10

Now, crawl up in the lap of your REAL daddy and accept the Love that He gives us so freely! I’m serious, imagine sitting in the lap of Jesus and Him telling you how precious and beautiful you are. You’re His!
