How do you stay ‘good’ when we live in such a bad world? I just happen to have several options for you! Lock yourself in your room with your bible and only come out to eat. Put yourself in a bubble where all you can hear is Christian music and Billy Graham. Only leave your house to go to church. When you do have to go out into the real world, wear ear plugs and don’t make eye contact with anyone you don’t know.
If you’re considering any of these options, stop what you’re doing. Go take a good look at yourself in the mirror. Breathe deep. Then slap yourself as hard as you possibly can, right upside the head!
If you’re a believer, and you’re isolating yourself you SHOULD be slapped. If you’re a believer and you’re wondering what your purpose in life is, I’m going to tell you. Your purpose is to share Jesus with everyone!!! We are here on this earth to spread the Word and share the love of Christ with a lost and dying world. If that’s not purpose enough for you….get over yourself :-).
This is Jesus talking to the disciples in Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus, undeterred, went right ahead and gave his charge: “God authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age.”
The same goes for us! You don’t have to be a preacher. Not everyone is called to preach, but you are called to minister and share the grace, mercy and love that’s been given to you so freely. Philemon 1:6 says, I keep praying that this faith we hold in common keeps showing up in the good things we do, and that people recognize Christ in all of it. That’s my prayer for myself and my brothers and sisters in Christ. Whatever it is you do, let people see Christ in you.
