Isn’t it fun to take a vacation? Just to drop everything, forget about work and things that are going on in your life, even if its just for a few days.
I love when, your husband wants to get up early, I mean like before the crack of dawn early, and leave. You’ve been up half the night packing both your things. You crawl into bed, only to have the alarm go off, what seems like, just a few minutes later. You hit snooze a few times, so you get up in just enough time to jump in the shower. No quiet time! By the time you get everything crammed in the car, you’re both ill as a hornet.
Then, you’re off! Sleepy and hungry, but its so early nothing is open yet so you just ride. You didn’t bring coffee because you didn’t want to have to stop and pee every five minutes. You doze off but are constantly awakened by sudden stops and that annoying noise when you veer off the road just a bit. Yell at the hubby, curl back up, ah! Finally sleep! Now, Hardee’s is open, so after you’re refreshing fifteen minute nap, you eat breakfast. Man, I love road trips!
Finally, you arrive at your destination, unload all that stuff you just had to have and drag it to the room. Check everything for cleanliness, have the hubby check the bed for bed bugs. Ah, all is well! And we’re both too tired to go do anything, because we got up so early. Vacations are so much fun!
The next morning we’re up and refreshed! Ready for the day. One wants to hike in the mountains, one wants to go shopping in town. Hiking? In the mountains? Are you kidding me?! I thought vacations were supposed to be fun? Shopping? Are you serious? I thought vacations were supposed to be relaxing? So, we compromise. A short walk down a trail, and we drive through town. That’s what I’m talkin’ about! No one could ever accuse us of being selfish!
And so the vacation ends, and its time to come home. The ride home is much less stressful than the ride up there. By this time, all the mishaps are downright hilarious, so basically, all you remember are the fun times. You laugh and talk all the way home. I love vacations!
I tried to think of an example of where someone in the bible took a vacation. I couldn’t think of one. I think vacations are something our ever increasing, selfish society has decided we deserve. But, I do wonder if when Mary and Joseph were making their trek to Bethlehem, if she griped when Joseph ran the donkey off the road? I wonder if when there wasn’t any room in the inn, she whined so much that Joseph lost his temper and got in the inn keeper’s face? They were human after all, and Mary was hormonal pregnant.
The bible doesn’t talk much about their everyday life, but I bet I’m right about this. When it was all over, all the mishaps were funny and all they remembered were the good things!
Traveling with the ones you love the most, doesn’t always turn out perfect; but nothing could be further from perfect than not spending time with the ones you love.
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 1 Corinthians 13:4-5
A person can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in their own toil. This too, I see, is from the hand of God, Ecclesiastes 2:24
