Blind Faith

I had an interesting dream Saturday night. I dreamed that Steve and I went on a trip with a friend of ours, nothing too unusual about that. We rode with her, in her car. It wasn’t until we started home that we remembered she’s blind! How do you forget that someone is blind, much less take a long road trip with her driving??

We’re going down the road and I started to get a little panicked. When we stopped at the store, I asked her, “how is it that you’re driving?” She said, “check out my new glasses! God is doing miraculous things!” When I looked through them, I realized she only had slight tunnel vision, which may have been great for her, considering she hadn’t been able to see a thing. For me however, it sort of dampened my confidence in her driving abilities.

I told Steve, so that made him nervous. All the way home we nit picked her driving. We would tell her to watch out for things, overly warn her of things, and basically made her so nervous that she wrecked! Not a bad wreck at all, but bad enough that she stopped and said “fine! You just drive!” We had crushed her spirit to the point that she had given up.

As Christians, don’t we sometimes do that to each other? We get jealous of others who may be on a spiritual high, instead of encouraging them. Someone claims God did something in their lives, and we place doubt in their minds instead of rejoicing with them. Someone becomes a new christian, and instead of encouraging them, we scold them whenever they don’t do something exactly right.

I know in my life, besides in the dream about my blind friend, I’ve caused someone to ‘wreck’ spiritually, have you? What makes us do that to our own people? Are we so self centered and pious, that we think God only speaks to us? Or do we really doubt God’s ability that much? God is infinite, and there’s more than plenty of Him to go around. We need not doubt, or be jealous when He’s moving in other’s lives.

We should think about each other to see how we can encourage each other to show love and do good works. We must not quit meeting together, as some are doing. No, we need to keep on encouraging each other. This becomes more and more important as you see the Day getting closer. Hebrews 10:24-25

Isn’t the Day always getting closer? Christians need to band together to make a difference in this world! We need to hold each other up and pray for each other. There’s a hurt and dying world that needs Jesus. It’s our job to share Him with them! That’s hard to do when we’re too busy tearing each other down! Let’s drive forward, believing and trusting God, even when we feel as if we are driving blind.
