I love to see people eat! I know that may sound weird, but I love to cook for people, and I love watching them enjoy what I’ve cooked.
Have you ever seen anybody eat who just made food look good? You could tell that, whenever and whatever they were eating, they were serious about it, and was thoroughly enjoying themselves.
My aunt Flossie was that kind of person. She was one of those people who always seemed old. You know what I mean? She wore little pointy glasses, and she was as round as she was tall. She had the kind of fat on her arms that kids, such as myself, wanted to squeeze on, and lots of times I did! If someone squeezed my arm fat, I would slap them! Not aunt Flossie, she didn’t seem to mind. My favorite thing about her though, was watching her eat.
She ate rather slowly, and seemed to savor every bite. It didn’t matter what she was eating, she made it look as if it were the most delicious thing on the planet. She could’ve been eating turnip greens, which I hated back then, and seeing how good she made them look made me want them!
What if we lived our lives the way aunt Flossie ate her food? What if when people watched us, we made our Christian walks look so good, that everyone wanted what we had? What if we savored every moment, trusting that no matter what was going on, God was in control and He can handle anything? What would that look like to nonbelievers? Would they want what we were having?
That’s the kind of life I want to live. I screw up a whole lot, but my desire is for people to want what I’m having! Just for the record, you can watch me eat anytime, but you had better not squeeze my arm fat!
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31
And make people want what you’re having!
