Let the practical jokes begin! My friend Tina, and my husband Steve have a practical joke vendetta with each other.
Tina would say that Steve started it when he scared the crap out of her. Which Steve would argue, is NOT a practical joke. Steve says Tina started it when she greased the door handle of his truck, which, according to Steve IS a practical joke. No matter who started it, yesterday Steve got Tina good!
Tina and I had been out running around. When I pulled up to let her out of her car, she noticed it right off the bat! She said “No, he didn’t!” And burst out laughing. I looked up to see that Steve had wrapped her car in shrink wrap! We were laughing so hard! He went around it about seven or eight times. We nearly got dizzy unwrapping it!
I could just picture Steve running around her car, grinning from ear to ear the whole time! Keep in mind, her car was parked at our store, which happens to be on a busy highway! I wonder how many people chuckled as they went by and saw what he was doing?
I, personally, am not much of a practical joker due to the fact that I’m kind of an “all dishy no takey” kind of person. I’ve warned them to keep me out of it! I ain’t got no horse in this race! *Bad grammar was used for dramatic effect only. Watching them is rather fun though, I must admit!
What if God was like Tina and Steve? What if He paid us back every time we did something wrong? Don’t get me wrong, there are natural consequences to sin, but God’s not sitting there with His smiting rod, waiting to smite us the minute we step out of line. However, like any good father, He corrects those He loves.
I used to think that’s how God was. That He was some big, mean god who took great delight in getting on to us if we were ‘bad’. That’s a pretty messed up view of God. He’s a loving, merciful God who’s faithful and just and forgives when we ask. If we got what we deserved, we’d all be goners! I do believe God has a sense of humor, and He’s probably laughing at Steve and Tina now. I’m just glad He’s not shrink wrapping us!
I just pray that Steve and Tina call a truce soon. I pray that they can be more like You God, and that they will stop repaying evil for evil. And most of all I pray that I am left out of their antics! Thank you in advance. Amen!
Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will bless you for it. 1 Peter 3:9
For the LORD corrects those he loves, just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights. Proverbs 3:12
