Close Encounters Of The Deadly Kind

Have you ever had a brush with death? It’s so scary to think that in a mere instance, life could be over. Yesterday, I had one of those close encounters with death. Today, I’m cherishing my life just a little more.

Yesterday I started mowing the yard. When I kept letting the lawn mower die, Steve decided he would take over. I was standing at the picnic table drinking some water, when WHACK! A rock, about the size of a half dollar, flew from the lawn mower and got me!

I was in severe pain. There was an immediate knot and bruising. I desperately tried to get Steve’s attention by glaring at him with an evil stare, which under the circumstances was about all I could muster. Finally he caught my gaze and stopped to check on me. He hopped off the mower and ran over to me. I could see fear in his eyes. When he saw the huge knot in my arm, he felt horrible! A foot higher, and I could’ve been rendered blind, left in a coma, or stepped on into eternity! I might even start a small group at church on lawn mower safety.

A close encounter with death will cause you to look at life differently. Today, I’m going to love on people a little more. I’m going to hug people a little tighter. I’m going to work a little harder and make every minute count. Well, I mean, as long as any of those things don’t hurt my arm. I have to take care of myself you know! After all, I am injured.

I pray that none of you have a close encounter with death as I did yesterday. Most of all, I pray, that if you do, you’re ready to meet your Maker. Had the rock impaled my head and killed me, I know where I would’ve went! Do you?

If you’re not sure, say your ABC’s. A-admit you’re a sinner. We all are! B- believe that Jesus is God’s son, that He died for our sins and rose again. And last, C- confess that Jesus is Lord and choose to follow Him. Simple as that!

*Romans 3:23- “For all have sinned & fall short of the glory of God.”
*1 John 1:9- “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”

*John 3:16- “For God so loved the world that He gave His one & only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.”
*John 1:12- “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”

*Romans 10:9- “That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
*Luke 9:23- [Jesus said,] “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”
