Scars, Neon Band Aids And Jehovah Rapha

I have a confession to make. I like scars and bruises. Steve says when I get hurt, I put on neon band aids and draw sharpie arrows pointing to my injury so that everyone is sure to notice them. The sad truth is, that’s not too far from the truth.

You see, I love to tell people what happened. I know it’s hard to believe that I like attention, but its true. If I fall or get hurt and I don’t have a big, purple bruise, I’m ticked! I want people to notice the pain I’ve endured.

I think it stems from childhood. When my sister and I were kids, she had several broken bones, not to mention she was also the cute red head. So with the combination of a cast AND being the cute red head, she usually got way more attention than I. I used to wonder why my bones were so tough. Then I realized, I’m not that tough. I just don’t do anything that might lead to physical harm.

We all have scars. Some are physical, some are emotional. Some we want to brag about and explain, and some we want to bury. In some way or another, we all want someone to see, and acknowledge our pain; even when it’s the kind of pain we don’t want to discuss.

People will act all kind of weird when they’re hurting. Sometimes those behaviors are easier to ignore than to deal with. However, as Christians, should we ignore those who are hurting? Should we turn our backs on those who may be acting out because they’ve been hurt or scarred by someone, or something? I don’t think so! God is tolerant of us so we should show others grace and mercy.

Some hurts heal easily without leaving a mark; others heal, but leave scars. Some scars fade, others are there for life, but they all tell a story. Your story can be used to glorify God. Believe that!

Here’s the thing though. If you’re hurting and you feel like no one has noticed; you’ve put on your neon band aids and drawn your sharpie arrows, yet no one seems to care. God cares! He knows! He sees every tear you cry, and feels every break of your heart. He’s waiting for you to bring those hurts and that pain to Him. He’s all you need and His grace is sufficient for anyone and anything! He’s Jehovah Rapha, our God who heals!!

You have recorded my troubles. You have kept a list of my tears. Aren’t they in your records. On the day I call for help, my enemies will be defeated. I know that God is on my side. I praise God for his word to me; I praise the Lord for his word. Psalms 56:8-10

I will praise the Lord. I won’t forget anything he does for me. He forgives all my sins. He heals all my sicknesses. Psalms 103:2-3

Even though I know my God is enough. Y’all still, please acknowledge my band aids and bruises please! 🙂
