Can you believe stores are already putting Halloween items on their shelves? What’s up with that? Summer’s not even over yet, and they’re already shoving fall displays down our throats. They’ll probably have Santa out before they remove the ghosts and the witches. Rudolph will most likely be munching on mums and pumpkins.
Why does this happen? We can hardly enjoy one holiday before they’re shoving the next one at us. Do you think ‘they’ think we, as a society, will overlook a major holiday if they don’t get the stuff out way early? They may actually be smarter than we think.
I think they do it that way because they realize people are so broke, they want to give them time to buy a little at a time. Which if you think about it, isn’t a bad idea. Sometimes it’s best to buy a little at a time.
In stores, a display can make a world of difference in sales. It can make or break an item. You can have a great product, but if you don’t market it properly, there’s a chance it will be a flop. It has to look appealing on the shelf. There has to be a great slogan, maybe a catchy tune. Presentation is everything.
As Christians, what does our display look like? Do we make Christianity look appealing, or do we make it look like the next fad that will peak for a little bit then just disappear? Often times, our display is great, but our product doesn’t live up to the hype.
We have the opportunity to sell the most valuable product on the market…eternal life. How are we pitching our product to potential buyers? Are we trying to shove it down their throats, or do we give them time to buy a little at a time? Can we prove to potential buyers that the product really works? Are we doing everything we can to market what we have? There are so many people who need what we have, but we’ll put a witch on our door and Santa in the yard before we’ll tell someone about Jesus.
God, help us all to work on our sales pitches. Help us to market You well, and to live lives that are appealing to the lost. Help us to be patient and kind. Help us to live modest and humble lives, giving You all the glory. Help us to be in Your good and perfect will so that we can please You. And please tell the stores to let us enjoy one holiday before they start shoving another one down our throats!
Do not be shaped by this world; instead be changed within by a new way of thinking. Then you will be able to decide what God wants for you; you will know what is good and pleasing to him and what is perfect. Romans 12:2
