Disclaimer: If you read the Oneeighty newsletter, this is a revised repeat. If you’ve opened this blog, you just might have a potty mouth. Not to mention, I may, or may not, have added something you need to see! Thank you. Proceed.
By now, a lot of you know me and, most likely, think I’m super cool. I need to confess that, seriously, I’m not that cool. I’m a nerd at heart. I love scrabble, or anything similar. I will challenge any of you to a game of Words With Friends any day, any time! I might not always win, but I won’t go down without a fight, rest assured!
One of my favorite word games is Lexulous. I’ve played this one opponent a few games, and they’ve been very close games. More often than not, resulting in ME getting a butt whooping.
In this last game, I had the opportunity to score major pointage if I used a dirty word. A really dirty word. One of the worst dirty words in the world. Don’t worry, it wasn’t taking The Lord’s name in vain, it was the word just under that word in degrees of vulgarity.
I placed it in the board a few times and just couldn’t press the play button. I kept trying to justify playing it in my head. “I really need this win” I’d tell myself. “I don’t even know this person” I’d reason. “I can tell them I’m a Christian, but that’s the only word I could play” I’d think. Still, try as I might, I couldn’t hit the play button. So, I turned to the person I trust the most in the world, surely he’d tell me it was ok, after all, it’s just a word. Steve said ” You know better than that, you silly head!” Ugh! I wanted to cuss, and not just in the game! I mean, I REALLY wanted to cuss! Not that I’m competitive or anything.
As I sat there, I was still contemplating playing the horrible, awful word, then I conceded. Deep down I knew that it was wrong. Deep down I knew that, even if it meant losing; loyalty to my God, and what He says was more important than some silly game. I knew that integrity, even in the little things, and even when you’re around people you don’t know, is one of the most important things a person can have. I knew that, more than winning, I really want my life to be pleasing to The Lord.
I love how God doesn’t force us to do anything. His Holy Spirit gently nudges us, brings God’s word to our memory, and sets our feet back on the high road. I’m thankful that I listened this time. He knows there’s been lots of times when I didn’t.
I kept looking, and lo and behold, I came up with a clean, high scoring word! Cha-Ching! Now, I’ll most likely kick some Lexulous booty, and do it with integrity! *Insert fist pump* God cares about every detail of our lives, even word games!
So get rid of all evil behavior. Be done with all deceit, hypocrisy, jealousy, and all unkind speech. Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness. 1 Peter 2:1-3
