If I had the chance, I’d share my heart with every young person who’s headed down the wrong path.
The joys of watching the person you helped create grow up. The dreams and aspirations you have for them. Will they be a teacher, a baseball or football player, a missionary or a preacher? The possibilities are endless. Then something changes. That sweet child you once had high hopes for, starts heading in the opposite direction of anything you’d ever dreamed.
The heartbreak of seeing someone with so much potential throwing it all away. The agony of sleepless nights, not knowing where your child is, or if they’re hurting. Your mind running away, thinking of all the different scenarios that COULD be happening. The many, many times you’ve went over, and over all the things you’d done wrong, and blamed yourself for the situation. The embarrassment. The pitiful looks you get from others. The prayers that seem to go unanswered. The jealousy of those who’s children seemed to have turned out perfect. And no matter how old your children are, your heart never changes, your love, and concern for them never diminishes. Sometimes, it all feels so unbearable. You wonder if there truly is an end in sight.
Do these people really understand what they’re doing to the people who love them? Would it make a difference if they could see inside their mother’s hearts? Would it make a difference if they, for just one minute, could feel the way we felt? Or would they selfishly push back the feelings and go on with their self destruction?
I wonder lots of times, if our son Tucker could just see my heart, would it matter to him? Then it hit me; does it matter to me when I know that I’m breaking my Heavenly Father’s heart? Does it stop me from doing things I know are wrong? Does it make me want to live up to the potential God has for me? Or do I selfishly go on doing, and behaving the way I want?
How do you know the Father’s heart? You talk to Him, and read His Word. Knowing how He feels about you, and how He feels about sin, makes a difference in our lives. How does your child know your heart? They can only know your heart if you share it with them.
Want to make a difference in a loved ones life? Share your heart with them, then share the heart of Christ with them. Let them know that, sometimes as parents, we may want to give up on them, but God never does! His love never fails! He’ll never let them down.
Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his loving-kindness continues forever. Give thanks to the God of gods, for his loving-kindness continues forever. Give thanks to the Lord of lords, for his loving-kindness continues forever. Praise him who alone does mighty miracles, for his loving-kindness continues forever. Praise him who made the heavens, for his loving-kindness continues forever. Praise him who planted the water within the earth, for his loving-kindness continues forever. Praise him who made the heavenly lights, for his loving-kindness continues forever: the sun to rule the day, for his loving-kindness continues forever; and the moon and stars at night, for his loving-kindness continues forever. Psalm 139:1-9
