Well, things are winding down! Saturday morning I leave for Mexico! I’ll be gone for seven days and Steve’s not going! I wasn’t quite as nervous before when he went too, but this time i find myself anxious and fearful. Ugh! I have so much to do this week!
I’m not sure I’d know how to act if i didn’t fear. Fear has always been such a part of my life. It’s what’s held me back in so many ways. And when I start getting fearful, I tend to shut down. My “flight or fight” mechanism grows wings and takes me right back to my safe place! Which doesn’t require boarding an airplane and going to Mexico without my husband! Last week, at church, we were asked to write down what we would do for God if we had no fear of failing. Wow!! No fear of failing?! Is there such a thing?
That was a tough question to answer! Because just writing my answer made me fearful, because even thinking about God making certain things a reality, seems dang near impossible. Even though I know full well that nothing is impossible with God. Why do I doubt?! I KNOW He can do anything!
I think part of it, for me, is that I’m allergic to work. More often than not, God requires us to work for the things we want the most, and work requires…well…working! Most of the time, He doesn’t just drop things in our laps. I personally want things to magically happen, but i think He knows that some of us only appreciate the things we have to work for, or that requires us getting out of our comfort zones. Ugh. Why’d He create me this way?!? 🙂
Whether we realize it or not, God is calling all of His people to do something. He may be calling you to do the same thing someone else is already doing, but don’t worry! There’s plenty of room for everyone! Let’s not compare ourselves to others, just do what God requires of you! He’ll reward us if we just step out in faith, and trust Him to work out the details. There’s no room for fear when we let God take over!
Step out of that boat! Get on that plane! Get on that stage! Pick up that pen! Go to that jail! Start that small group! Witness to the stranger at Walmart. Pay for someone’s meal without them knowing. Stand up for the underdog! Speak up for what the bible says is right! Let’s just do whatever God is asking us to do! Let’s make a difference in our homes, in our communities, and in the world! NO FEAR!
From: Simon Peter, a servant and missionary of Jesus Christ.
To: All of you who have our kind of faith. The faith I speak of is the kind that Jesus Christ our God and Savior gives to us. How precious it is, and how just and good he is to give this same faith to each of us. Do you want more and more of God’s kindness and peace? Then learn to know him better and better. For as you know him better, he will give you, through his great power, everything you need for living a truly good life: he even shares his own glory and his own goodness with us! And by that same mighty power he has given us all the other rich and wonderful blessings he promised; for instance, the promise to save us from the lust and rottenness all around us, and to give us his own character. But to obtain these gifts, you need more than faith; you must also work hard to be good, and even that is not enough. For then you must learn to know God better and discover what he wants you to do. Next, learn to put aside your own desires so that you will become patient and godly, gladly letting God have his way with you. 1 Peter 1:1-6
