This morning my brain doesn’t seem to want to function; at least not very productively anyway. I just keep thinking about the women in the county jail. I don’t just randomly think of women in jail, mind you, I help with a jail ministry, at our church, called Breakout.
I was there this Friday night, and I just have to say that I left broken hearted. You can tell, by the things some of them say, that they think their lives are never going to be more than just getting by. They have NO idea that it doesn’t have to be that way!
They, like many people, believe that God has saved them. They even believe that God works miracles. Just not for them. They don’t believe they’re good enough for God to love that much. They believe the lies that satan tells them. That this is who they are, and they’ll never be much more. Most of them, sadly, will live out the rest of their lives happy if they just don’t go back to jail. That’s heartbreaking, not to mention, it’s bull crap!!
No one has to settle for ‘just getting by’! God has, and wants good things for His children! I’m not talking about material things. I’m talking about living a life of freedom! Freedom from hurts, habits, and hang-ups! Freedom from the guilt and shame of your past! Whether it’s things you’ve done to others, or things that were done to you through no fault of your own, or both! God can heal! He can restore! And He can redeem! All you have to do is accept it, then live it! Believe that once you accept Jesus as savior, that you now deserve good. Because of His sacrifice, we are made pure and whole.
Don’t settle for a mediocre life. Go after what God has for you and know that you deserve more than just getting by. You’re made in His image and in His likeness. You’re beautiful and pure! Get out of that rut and on the path God paved just for you!
I guess my brain kicked in a little because I said more than I thought I would :-). Y’all pray for the ladies who are in jail. Pray they accept what Christ has for them, and for them to see themselves as God does!
God’s readiness to give and forgive is now public. Salvation’s available for everyone! We’re being shown how to turn our backs on a godless, indulgent life, and how to take on a God-filled, God-honoring life. This new life is starting right now, and is whetting our appetites for the glorious day when our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, appears. He offered himself as a sacrifice to free us from a dark, rebellious life into this good, pure life, making us a people he can be proud of, energetic in goodness. Titus 2:11-14
