Sunday, at church, our praise band sang Dream On by Aerosmith. Let me tell you something. When I say they did good, I mean they tore it UP! They played and sang the crap out of that song! It went along with the sermon perfectly. Some of you may feel like using secular music in church isn’t right, and that’s fine. We can agree to disagree. I believe that God takes what’s meant for evil and uses it for good! And THAT my friends, was GOOD!! Whew!
I was excited that, that day they’d chosen to do something that might be appealing to those attending who might not yet be “church people”, because Tucker was with us, and he’d brought a friend. I wanted to see what Tucker thought of the song choice, so I sent him a text that said, “Do you think any other church is singing Aerosmith this morning?” His response? “$h*t just got real!”
Now. I would’ve loved a different response, and I admit, my first thought was to get on to him, but thankfully, the Holy Spirit stopped me. He gently reminded me (AGAIN) that I’m not to be trying to do His job. He reminded me to let Tucker be Tucker and to let God be God. As much as I’d love to be able, I can’t change anyone. My days of getting on to Tuck are over. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still a mother, not to mention FEMALE; so I will politely offer Tucker (or anyone else for that matter)
my advice! However, hopefully I will not overstep my bounds, and God will allow me to play a part in the transformation of a life.
I’m thankful to be a part of a church who genuinely loves people right where they are! Seeing people living, and loving like that has taught me so much! It’s the most loving environment I’ve ever been in! It’s truly a congregation full of people who genuinely love others, especially those who may have struggled the hardest.
Here’s the deal. There are lots of people there who require extra grace, sometimes I’m one of those people. You don’t hear people complaining about how some of them may be acting, or how they may look; which quite honestly, would be understandable at times. I’m not saying there aren’t some things we may chuckle about. I mean, some things are funny. I don’t care how much you love someone! I’m just saying that this congregation does what every church is supposed to do. They simply LOVE! They’re not afraid of “catching” their sin!
I can promise you this. The leaders at our church would not want me bragging on them. They give God ALL the credit for ANY good they may do. I’m just thankful that they are willing vessels for God to be able to use! I’m thankful that our leaders have been where most of the people who walk through those doors have been, and that they are such wonderful examples of Christ’s love, and that they lead by example. Why? Because, good or bad, people follow the leader!

Save others by snatching them from the fire of hell. Show mercy to others, even though you are afraid that you might be stained by their sinful lives. Jude 1:23
