As some of you already know, I’ve been recording some of my original songs. I’ve seen people do this on tv and it looks like so much fun! Fun isn’t exactly what I’d call this; it’s more like work! And those who know me, know I’m allergic to work! Don’t get me wrong, it’s exciting for sure, but there’s a BIG difference in fun and exciting.
What’s amazing to me is how I’ve sang many of these songs in front of crowds and never missed a note, but stick me in that booth with those headphones on, and suddenly I’m all weirded out! I’m running out of breath in places I’ve never run out of breath before, and missing notes I’ve never missed! Songs that I know I can sing well, I’m messing up. Ugh! What the heck?! I just don’t get it.
What’s amazing to me is how they can take a piece from one take, and put it into another take to make it perfect! I mean, down to the smallest detail like one syllable of a word! Thank You Lord for technology!
I’ll be going along, doing so well then BAM! I’m all weirded out, feeling as if I’m all alone, and wondering why I just can’t get it together. Anyone else ever feel that way? Fortunately, for those of us who are believers, God’s grace is a whole lot like the recording studio. He allows us as many takes as we need! And He takes the messed up parts, removes them, and puts our lives back together to make a beautiful song! And He does it in a way that doesn’t make you feel bad, because there’s no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus! *Romans 8:1*
I’m nowhere near the best singer in the world, nor am I anywhere near the best Christian in the world, I’m just trying to do what God asks of me. Sometimes I don’t miss a note, and other times it’s like I’ve never heard His Word. Thankfully, our God allows retakes! And the Holy Spirit is our auto tune! If we’re doing what God asks of us, He’ll turn it into something beautiful no matter how awkward we may feel!
“I, I am the one who wipes away all your sins. I do this to please myself. I will not remember your sins. But you should remember me. Let’s meet together and decide what is right. Tell your story and prove that you are innocent. Isaiah 43:25-26
