I have been “challenged”, about four or five times on Facebook, to do one thing or another; the ice bucket challenge for charity and the five days of gratitude.
I must admit, I ignored the ice bucket challenges. Don’t judge! For one thing, I don’t even like the shower to spray in my face! For another thing, I haven’t had time for such. I’ve actually been working my butt off lately! Not to mention all the family “stuff” that’s been going on! I’m doing good to remember to pay our bills! Let alone have ice water poured on my head! Not that I think there’s anything wrong with doing so! I just prefer to give money while staying warm and dry.
As far as the five days of gratitude goes, this is how I’m choosing to handle that challenge. I’m going to tell you some of the things I’m most grateful for; then, I’m going to challenge y’all!
First off, I’m grateful that Jesus died for our sins, and because of His selflessness we can live in freedom! I’m thankful for my mom and dad, who decided to mix sperm and egg to make ME! Without them I wouldn’t be here. I’m thankful that, for a second time, my parents mixed their special God-given concoction to make my sister. She’s more than a sister, she’s my friend! And there are many more reasons for which I’m thankful for our parents.
I’m also thankful that my sister married Chris, which gave me a brother! Plus, the best part of all, together they gave me my amazing, smart, and beautiful nieces, Tori and Ivy, with whom God intends to do amazing things! I’m thankful for ALL my family! Step, in laws, cousins, aunts, uncles….ALL of them!
I’m thankful that, even though I chose to do things my own way, God saw fit to give me a son. A very handsome, smart, funny, big-hearted son with whom He intends to do great things! I’m also thankful that, even though I didn’t remotely ask God, He chose to bless both, myself and Tucker, with a wonderful husband and father. He’s not just a husband and father, he’s a godly leader, an awesome christian example, and my best friend!
I’m also thankful that God’s let us borrow a daughter. She’s beautiful, caring, wise, smart, strong willed, and independent. I imagine this is what it would’ve been like to have had Averie with us; only Olivia hasn’t been with us long enough to smart off, and she’s already been through her rebellious stage. At least I hope she has! And if she doesn’t eventually smart off, I’ll think she’s up to something!
And now, on to my friends! I’m SO thankful for my friends! God has richly blessed me with some of the most amazing friends ever! Friends who encourage me and listen when I need an ear. Friends who aren’t judgemental, and who pray with and for me. Friends who laugh with, and sometimes at me. Friends who support and help me…you name it, they do it! Some I’ve known forever, or at least it seems, and others not that long. Some I talk to on a regular basis, and some I don’t. All of them are important! And all have made an impression, and had an impact in my life.
I’m thankful for our health. Im thankful for our country and for freedom (while they still exist). I’m thankful for our church and our church family. I’m thankful for a roof over our heads, food on our table, clothes on our backs and shoes on our feet. I’m thankful for transportation, air conditioning, make up, coffee, and work to pay for it all!
Now, here’s my challenge to y’all! I challenge everyone to not have to be challenged to give or to be grateful! Our lives should be lives that reflect God’s word. Our lives should scream thankfulness and worship! Worship is not just for Sundays! Worship is a way of life! Being grateful is not merely a suggestion, God’s pretty clear that we should live gratefully and live lives full of worship!
Do you see what we’ve got? An unshakable kingdom! And do you see how thankful we must be? Not only thankful, but brimming with worship, deeply reverent before God. Hebrews 12:28
