I wasn’t the only one who had a bad day yesterday. If I were the bettin’ kind, I’d bet that Tucker’s day was way worse than mine. For Tuck, going to therapy is about as pleasurable as an impaction removal.
Since the assault Tucker seems to have an aversion to therapists. According to him “they’re all idiots,” because “there’s nothing wrong with him.” As he sits there pouting like a three year old, and saying things, out loud, that most people would dare only to think. “He doesn’t need therapy, he’s perfectly fine.” Yeah. Ok.
The therapist did say that Tucker’s memory was great, as were his language, and visual skills. He can’t see worth a crap, but he knows what everything is when he does see it! What they’ll be working on is his impulsivity and disinhibition. Trust me, those areas desperately need work! Just ask my friend Tina C. who, while having lunch with us, was privy to the fact that Tucker, and I quote, “really had to $h¡t.” Yes, that’s what he said!! What the heck?!
I know some of you may think that, because Tucker’s my child, some of that is normal for him, but NO! Maybe you’ve even been around Tucker, and you’re thinking that what I’m describing is not much different than the Tucker you’ve experienced. Most likely, he was high as a kite! Real Tucker is normal! Some of you may have never even seen real Tucker, but I assure you, he’s in there!!! And my prayer is that that’s who comes out, and stays out! God is bigger and stronger than not so real Tucker! Real Tucker, controlled by the Holy Spirit = really, real Tucker!
But what happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard – things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, 23 not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely. Legalism is helpless in bringing this about; it only gets in the way. Galatians 5:22-23
