Sex And Cookies. Temptation Lurks!

As I sit here on the couch, I have a clear view of the kitchen counter where the cookies, Olivia baked last night, happen to be sitting. As I sat, in a stare, contemplating who I was going to use as the victim, I mean subject, of today’s blog, I realized I was staring directly at the cookies; and that’s when it happened. The foil, I had covered them with last night, mysteriously lifted!

It was as if angels from heaven had lifted the shiny, metallic paper, beckoning me to the ooey, gooey, chocolatey goodness underneath. It was almost as tempting as watching Magic Mike. Which, by the way, I was informed by several “church ladies” was simply not a well written movie. WHO CARES!! Channing Tatum was stripping!! It could’ve been a silent film and still sold out! I’m just sayin’. *Ahem* Anyway, back to the cookies. I realize that the concept of angels beckoning me to eat the cookies made about as much sense as God wanting me to watch Magic Mike so I could effectively witness to a stripper. I’m sure the ceiling fan had merely blown the foil off the cookies. Alas, they still call my name!

As long as we’re alive there will always be temptations! Always! If left to our own devices, we will most likely falter. Sure, once in awhile our will power can withstand temptation. However, our will, and our power SUCK! Only by the grace of God, and the Holy Spirit living inside us, are we able to withstand the likes of the ooey, gooey, chocolatey goidnesses, and the Channing Tatums of this world! And we must not give in! There’s a lot at stake.

If you’re a Christ follower, and a believer, you’d better believe that someone is watching you! Don’t give them, or the enemy, a leg to stand on! Show them who’s boss! To do that, you have to know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, who is the boss of your life.

When people watch you do they know who’s in charge? Do they see you practicing “WWJD” or I they see you practicing “WWID (What Would I Do) Who’s will do you follow? Your own or God’s? Who’s your boss?
Don’t be so naive and self-confident. You’re not exempt. You could fall flat on your face as easily as anyone else. Forget about self-confidence; it’s useless. Cultivate God-confidence.
No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face. All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he’ll never let you be pushed past your limit; he’ll always be there to help you come through it. 1 Corinthians 10:12-13 the message
