Y’all may think I’m crazy but one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen is It’s Pat The Movie.
If you haven’t seen it, and you’re remotely close to my age, what the heck’s wrong with you?!? Disclaimer: I watched this movie in my life BC, so there’s most likely some off color humor. I don’t remember anything too bad, but you never know. Nothing phased me too much back then.
There’s a couple of lines from the movie that Steve and I quote, quite often, still to this day! One is when Pat unexpectedly (of course) shows up at a “friends” house. Naturally, he/she walks in without knocking, and totally ignores the fact that the lady is in her housecoat. Pat notices the time is not set on her VCR (that’s how old the movie is) and says, “I noticed you haven’t set the time on your VCR. How annoying! You should really let me do that for you.” She says, “Ok, go ahead.” To which Pat replied, “I didn’t mean now! I’ll have to come back when it was convenient for ME!” That cracks me up!
Two other quotes we love to use from It’s Pat are (and I don’t remember what’s going on when she says these)
when Pat says, “Feel sorrier for me!” and, “I need something for ME right now!” We use these quotes when we’re jokingly being extremely selfish. I mean, no one is really that selfish, in real life, right? Or are we?
When we see someone being so blatantly selfish, it’s appalling! Who would say those things? Most likely no one, but we don’t have to say anything! I’ve noticed that, often times, I’m more than willing to help anyone with anything, so long as it doesn’t infringe on anything I already have planned, or make me have to go out of my way. I’ve even caught myself being that selfish with God! The One who created me! The One who created time! And I want to be selfish with my time with Him?!? What the heck?!
When I’m praying, I’ve caught myself saying feel sorrier for me, and I need something for ME right now! And I know for a fact I’ve told God (maybe not using these exact words, but close) not now, I’ll have to come back when it’s convenient for me! The nerve of us ever being selfish with God! He gives us all that we need! He’s so generous! The fact that we get to live on His earth alone should be enough! Yet, we, or I know I am, always seem to
need want more!
I catch myself complaining a lot! Then, I’m usually reminded of how blessed we truly are. Sure, we’re going through a rough patch right now, but it’s nothing compared to some! We don’t have the best of everything, but we have all we need. We sure ain’t rich, but we sure ain’t poor. We’re alright! If you really think about it, no matter how bad things seem at times, there’s not many of us, here in America, who have much room at all to complain too much about anything!
And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19
