Why is it that, when you’re young, and it seems you have all the time in the world, you can run for days on a few hours sleep? However, when you’re old, and it seems there’s never enough time, if you don’t get enough sleep you can barely function?!
What about how men and women’s sex drives peak at different times?! What’s up with that? I mean, how convenient would it have been if God had of made those things happen at the same time?! What if God had of also created men and women’s body temperatures to coordinate?! In the first years she’s freezing, and in the latter years he’s freezing! WHY GOD WHY???!!!???
And why is it that kids are SO angelic when they’re SLEEPING?! What a brilliant concept it would’ve been if kids got all their mischievousness out in their dreams! And then when they were awake they were perfect little angels! But alas, moms and dads are forced to watch their children sleeping to see angels. They’re also forced to fight about sleep (or lack thereof), sex (or lack thereof), and who gets to control the thermostat.
The thing is, when your a parent, (or grandparent, aunt, or uncle for that matter) when you look at your little (or not so little) ones sleeping, whether it’s one you helped create or one you’re borrowing from someone, you know that, even though life sometimes seems backwards, it’s all worth it! Even when they make mistakes, and even when you want to throat punch them, you know that, at some point, you’ll be watching them sleep and all will be well!
I’m so thankful that, in all areas of life, God gives us rest! When it seems too hard to keep going, hang in there! Rest is on the way! Trust God to sustain you! He gives rest to the weary. He gives us strength and patience to endure things like lack of sleep, and uncoordinated sex drives and body temperatures! He even gives you rest from rowdy kids!
As thankful as I am for all He does I can assure you that, when I get to Heaven, I’m going to ask Him why He couldn’t have matched things up a little better! 🙂
I will give rest and strength to those who are weak and tired.” Jeremiah 31:25
