Wish In One Hand Poop In The Other….

If your goal in life is to be, or to make someone else happy, then here’s a news flash. You’re going to be sorely disappointed! Happiness, albeit easily achieved, is impossible to maintain. There’s no one on the face of the earth who is always happy. If you happen to encounter a person who is always happy, proceed with extreme caution! Chances are they’re on some good hallucinogenics or they’re mentally unstable.

There’s nothing in this life that can produce permanent happiness. Having the best and smartest kids won’t keep a person happy. Having the perfect job won’t keep you happy. Having the hottest, most submissive wife won’t keep a man happy any more than having the best looking, hardest working, most generous man can keep a woman happy. Not having the biggest, fanciest home. Not wearing the nicest clothes. Not even having the perfect body can keep a person happy! Although, I’d gladly volunteer to be the test dummy for a few of those!

Notice I use the word keep, and not make. The truth is, every single one of those things, and then some, could make us happy! They just won’t keep us happy. As long as we’re living, we will never always be happy! EVER! In the past, someone asked me the question “What do you want most out of life?” I may have answered “To be happy.” Or years ago had someone asked me “What is the most important thing you want for your children?” I most likely would’ve answered “Just for them to be happy.” Hogwash! If I’m wishing happiness for folks I may as well be peeing in the wind! For one thing, if all I’m doing is sitting around wishing for anything, I may as well wish in one hand and poop in the other and see which one fills up the fastest. God’s people don’t merely sit around wishing and hoping! NO! Or at least we shouldn’t! God’s people should pray and believe!

I can promise you this, some of the most rewarding things in life don’t always produce happiness. Some of the most rewarding things in life come from hardships. I’ve experienced heartache that’s resulted in freedom. I’ve experienced agony that’s resulted in victory. And before I leave this world, I’ll repeatedly do it all over again. And so will everyone else!

What I pray most now for the ones I love are these things. That they will know God and how much He loves them. That they will see themselves, and others, through the eyes of Jesus. That they will experience and administer mercy and grace. That they’re not afraid of failure and not ashamed of mistakes, but that they see the lesson in both. I pray that they experience true joy and peace, and those can only be found through Jesus Christ! And I pray that they pass all those things down from generation to generation leaving a legacy of love.

Dear friends, God the Father chose you long ago and knew you would become his children. And the Holy Spirit has been at work in your hearts, cleansing you with the blood of Jesus Christ and making you to please him. May God bless you richly and grant you increasing freedom from all anxiety and fear.
All honor to God, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ; for it is his boundless mercy that has given us the privilege of being born again so that we are now members of God’s own family. Now we live in the hope of eternal life because Christ rose again from the dead. And God has reserved for his children the priceless gift of eternal life; it is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. And God, in his mighty power, will make sure that you get there safely to receive it because you are trusting him. It will be yours in that coming last day for all to see. So be truly glad! There is wonderful joy ahead, even though the going is rough for a while down here.
These trials are only to test your faith, to see whether or not it is strong and pure. It is being tested as fire tests gold and purifies it—and your faith is far more precious to God than mere gold; so if your faith remains strong after being tried in the test tube of fiery trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day of his return. 1 Peter 1:2-7
