This blog is by a friend of mine, Patty Thompson. I haven’t known her that long, but I’ve known her long enough to know that God’s done some big things in her life! I hope y’all enjoy hearing what God spoke to her as much as I did!
The other day I saw an animated short clip called “A Tale of Momentum and Inertia” Here’s the link to the video! http://youtu.be/CkKfejEYdPc It’s not long so when you get a second check it out. I thought it was very clever and hit me in a spiritual way.
A giant shaped as a boulder was at the top of a mountain moving boulders. One of the boulders broke loose and started to roll down toward a medieval village. The giant ultimately stops the boulder from destroying the village, but one structure is accidentally toppled when it is stuck by the giant’s foot. This prompts the people of the town, the giant had just saved, to launch all manner of weapons at the him. They’re shooting the very one who is holding back the thing that will kill them.
The weapons do not appear to be causing the giant much harm, but their intent is clear: the people of the village want the giant, who knocked over their building, dead. So eventually, annoyed by the nonstop attack, the giant lets go of the boulder and it squashes the village flat.
I was thinking that this is how we are with God. Sometimes when God holds back something from us, in our ignorance, we begin to throw everything we’ve got at God. Our whining and complaining, you know all the things in our arsenal, that we use to try and get our way? We may think that God is the big, bad guy because He won’t give us what we want, but really He is our protector.
There have been so many boulders in my life that I’ve have fought The Giant over, only to have my life bulldozed. I can be my own worst enemy. Through those times I have learned to trust The Giant. Even when I don’t see what’s behind him, I can rest assured it’s something I don’t need.
I’ve recently remembered some things in my life that have not been good. I have thought “I need to do this, or I need to do that”, but God says, in His still small voice, “Be still and know that I am God.” So I don’t fight it. Even though at times it kind of seems like He’s a giant trying to hold me back, or harm me, I know that He is holding back the boulder that could actually destroy me. So I am obeying God in this thing. I’m not fighting it. I’m waiting, just knowing that He will work everything to my good. Knowing my Hero, my Giant, JESUS is holding back my boulder!!!
How many times have you asked God for something and then pouted when you didn’t get it? Or, have you ever done something, knowing full well God told you not to, and fell flat on your face, then taken it out on God because He “allowed” something bad to happen? I know I’ve done those things a lot! I mean God’s God right? He could very well stop us from making mistakes couldn’t He? But I believe sometimes He backs off and allows us to make mistakes just to show us how wrong we are and how right He is! He simply wants us to listen and to trust!
The next time God tells you no, what will you do? Will you pitch a fit until you get your way, allowing the boulder of disobedience flatten you? Or will you trust your Giant? I pray that we all choose to trust!
Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long. Psalm 25:4-5
