If you really get to thinking about it, it would be near impossible to go through something that no one has been through, right? But yet so many times we find ourselves in situations where we feel that no one understands! There are people who say they understand, but do they really? There are people who’ve even been through the same thing, but it’s still not your situation. If you’re reading this and that’s how you feel, then I can relate!!
This whole brain injury thing, a lot of the time, leaves me feeling like most people don’t understand. God has been so sweet to put some people in my life who’ve been through the same thing with their children, and I’m so thankful! Because I have to say, if it weren’t for those people, I wouldn’t understand it myself half the time!
It’s so weird how a person can seem so normal sometimes, and another time it’s like you hardly know them. And how, every time they leave the house you worry about what might happen. Not to mention how often I get my feelings hurt; either from an angry outburst or because someone really doesn’t understand the way he’s reacting or behaving, or because I’m being told I’m making excuses, or taking up for him. I’ve said this before, but I think what makes this even more difficult than it should be is that the brain injury behavior so closely resembles the meth induced behavior. Well, here’s the deal. I didn’t take up for, or make excuses for his behavior when he was on meth, but I certainly will do it now! Until he’s well, I’m going to protect him as much as a mother can protect a 23 year old! It’s my duty. It’s what God designed me to do! I won’t tolerate bad behavior, but there’s a way to handle it with extra grace for now. However, if I happen to go off on him, that’s none of anyone’s business :-).
I guess I’ve said all this to say; if you’ve found yourself in a situation, and you feel like no one could possibly understand; ask God to put people in your life who can!! Trust me! He will! Don’t let any situation isolate you! And don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself or a loved one! And most importantly know this….if you can’t find anyone in the whole wide world who understands your situation, remember that God does! You can talk to Him about anything! You can yell, you can scream, you can even cuss if need be! But, if I were you, I’d apologize aftwrwards. IJS. The point is, God’s big, and strong enough, and He’s certainly longsuffering enough to handle anything we throw His way! Sometimes He just wants us to trust Him enough to tell Him everything! I believe the more we learn to trust and rely on Him, the more people (with skin on) He’ll bless us with to help us walk through our trials! He simply wants us to trust Him above all and anyone else!
