So, I thought y’all should know that I stopped taking my prozac!! If you know anything about me and my life, then you know, beyond a shadow of any doubt, that prozac was definitely in order! However, I felt that it was time to stop. Naturally, in the last few weeks, I’ve experienced much frustration. Which brings me to today’s blog.
First off, I really need y’all to know how God has used this blog to minister to me! I seriously think I might’ve went crazy had I not had this blog! It’s been a healthy way for me to let out my feelings and emotions. God, prozac, friends and family, and this blog. Yep. That’s what’s gotten me through! Which again brings me to today’s blog. Since the last few weeks have left me feeling a smidge bitter (which by the way, isn’t so much the lack of meds in my system as it is that things in my life have just been extremely crazy) I feel the need to make a top ten list of things that royally chap my hide! *To chap one’s hide- verb; to displease or irritate.
10- “Blessed and highly favored of the Lord.” I’m sorry, but if I ask how you’re doing don’t give me some canned, ‘christian thing to say’ answer! For one, all Christians, no matter their life circumstances, fall into that category. For two, it makes me twitch! If I ask how you’re doing, I really want to know how you’re doing. *Such things sound impressive if said in a deep enough voice. They even give the illusion of being pious and humble and ascetic. But they’re just another way of showing off, making yourselves look important. Colossians 2:23
9- Someone sitting in my seat at any place I frequently visit. Nothing makes me want to rip a visitor a new one like walking up and finding them in my seat at church! I’ve always managed to talk myself down but still. I don’t like change. *”I the Lord do not change…Malachi 3:6
8- Insatiable smacking. Unless you happen to be a baby, who’s just learning to eat on one’s own, you should really keep the smacking down to a minimum. The occasional smack, or slurp is fine, but anything more than that is grounds for a new one being ripped. *And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them. Luke 6:31
7- When your finger pokes through the toilet paper. I do realize that we need to wash our hands, no matter the situation, after going to the bathroom, but when you really need to wash them before you can even pull up your pants?? That my friends is extremely frustrating! *“Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They don’t wash their hands before they eat! Matthew 15:2
6- When my dogs eat cat turds. I’ll never understand, this side of Heaven, why, when given even the slightest opportunity, my dogs will go get them a snack out of my cat’s litter box!!?? *As a dog returns to its vomit, (or the cat’s litter box) so a fool repeats his foolishness. Proverbs 26:11
5- The ever increasing ‘sissying’ of our society. Y’all, we have become a very wimpy society! Let boys be boys! Rough, tough, hunters and gatherers. Let’s allow our kids to make mistakes and work some things out for themselves! One day we won’t be here! Let’s stand up for what’s right no matter what. Let’s not turn our heads at injustice. *How in the world do you think it’s possible in broad daylight to enter the house of an awake, able-bodied man and walk off with his possessions unless you tie him up…Matthew 12:29
4- Political correctness. I’m sick and tired of everything under the sun hurting someone’s feelings! “We can’t have a football team called The Redskins. It might offend someone.” Hogwash! I can just about tell you which group of people came up with the term ‘political correctness’. Probably the same group of people who came up with frilly, smocked clothing for boys, and flag football. 14 Then the will be a holy place of safety for you. But that’s not true for many people in Israel and Judah. He will be a stone that causes them to trip. He will be a rock that makes them fall. And for the people of Jerusalemhe will be a trap and a snare. Isaiah 8:14
3- Someone trying to be another person’s Holy Spirit. We can not nag a person into submission. We can not force a person to be good, or to do right. Well, maybe temporarily we can, but it’s the Holy Spirit’s job to convict someone; not ours! If a person is only being good because they’ve been nagged and guilted and not because they love the Lord, it’s pretty much all for naught. *Peter and the other apostles replied, “We must obey God instead of people! Acts 5:29
2- People not understanding that people who have a brain injury can not help some of the things they do, or the way they may act. I realize that it’s impossible to get it unless you’ve lived it, or lived with it. However, any speculation, advice, dirty looks, expressed anger, or intolerance from anyone who doesn’t have a clue is not tolerated or accepted. *“Speak up for the people who have no voice, for the rights of all the down-and-outers. Speak out for justice! Stand up for the poor and destitute!” Proverbs 31:9
AND THE NUMBER ONE THING THAT REALLY CHAPS MY HIDE IS…..
1- When Christians hide behind God, or the principles of God, to manipulate people. Y’all, I’m sure that we’ve all been guilty of this in some form or another. Maybe, we’ve even done it and not been aware that’s what we were doing; but the thing is, whatever the case, I believe there’s a high price to pay for people who use God to do evil. I believe the price is especially high when we use God to manipulate someone who doesn’t know Jesus or is spiritually immature. God help us to check our motives. *Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15
