If any of you, who live in my neck o’ the woods, have ever been to Birmingham city court, then you know that the people there have got to be the rudest, meanest, most condescending people in the whole world! I’m not kidding! It was all I could do to keep from bawling my eyes out!
In my ignorance (and because I’d done it in another jurisdiction) I thought, since I had power of attorney over Tucker, that I could go to his court hearings in his place. Rather than explaining that to me, everyone I encountered was accusing me, and Tucker too for that matter, of something shady! They acted as if Tucker was just trying to get out of coming to court, and using his TBI as an excuse. The whole thing was my idea! You just never know what he might say! When I was trying to explain to the officer why he wasn’t there, she asked if he was able to walk. I told her that he was fine physically but that he just had a TBI. She said, “Well, we got crazy people in there now! We got doctors and psychiatrists in there!”
First off, my son’s not crazy! He’s injured! Secondly, all it would’ve taken was a little explanation for me to understand what I’d done wrong! “Lucky” for them I love Jesus, otherwise I might’ve been arrested for contempt of court! Plus, big, strong, snarling black women in a police uniform, scare the crap out if me!
The bible says in 1Peter 2:23, “Jesus did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered. He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly.” What I’m wanting to know is, was He able to do that simply because He’s Jesus? I mean, He’s ‘God in a bod’ for cryin’ out loud! Completely man, yet completely God. I, on the other hand, am a mere mortal! I want to email that judge and tell her how rude she was, and how it would’ve been nice of them to explained things to me instead of hurling accusations, and treating me like a dog! I want to tell her that her officer had better be glad I love Jesus, because normally I’d rip someone a new one for calling my boy crazy! Y’all, this is a misdemeanor! The way she was acting, you’d think Tucker was trying to avoiding a murder trial!
We have to go back to that God forsaken place in a week! I have to admit, I’m terrified! She said unless I have a note from a doctor stating that Tucker can’t walk or talk, he’d better show up for court. When the prosecutor asked if he was able to talk I told her “Yes! That’s the problem! There’s no telling what might come out of his mouth!” However, he could be having a really good day and make me look like a total liar! Either way we could use a prayer or several 100!
Over the course of the years I’ve learned that there are times we should speak up, and there are times we should be quiet. I just pray that the Holy Spirit helps me know when to do what! And that above all else, when He does tell me to speak up, people see and hear Jesus and not me!
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23
