Weekly Public Service Announcement

I’m going to start a new segment called Weekly Public Service Announcements. If you have something you’d like me to make a service announcement about, put it in the comments! I’d love to hear your suggestions!

Woman #1 sighs and says: Thanks for coming, Agnes. I didn’t know who else to talk to.

Woman #2: Don’t sweat it Eunice. What’s going on? You look like you’ve been crying.

Woman #1 pauses and then says in a lowered voice: I just found out that our son, Billy Bob Jr., and his girlfriend, Mary Sue, broke up.

Woman #2, shocked. Oh my Goodness! Are you serious Billy Bob Jr. and Mary Sue broke up?? I thought they were getting married?!

Woman #1: Dramatic pause: Yes. They were supposed to. I’m heartbroken.

Woman #2, concerned. Are you — are you okay?

Woman #1: Well — I’m as good as I can be for someone who just lost their future daughter in law. Billy Bob won’t tell us anything, and when I tried calling Mary Sue? She informed me that Billy Bob Jr. told her it wasn’t a good idea to continue having a relationship with us! They had been together for a long time and Mary Sue was like family. *Sobbing. I was counting on Mary Sue to be our caregiver when we get old! I just can’t see Billy Bob changing our diapers! Now, what if he gets with somebody we don’t like?! Our world just fell apart! And to top it off. We’re afraid they were having sex! They’re both good christian people!

Woman #2 lets out an exhalation of extreme anguish: I’m SO sorry you’re having to go through this. These young people have no idea how their dating choices affect ALL their loved ones. It’s not always so easy for everyone to just walk away and pretend the other person was never there. Not to mention the bond they’ve created with each other if they happened to have engaged in sexual activity outside marriage! Bless their hearts. If they only realized that God’s way is so much better! Why won’t they listen?!

Woman #1: Oh, girl, bless their hearts is right! They just have no idea of the unnecessary troubles they’ve heaped on themselves by not doing things the way God intended. The thing is, they had both heard about God’s promises! I guess people just have to learn some things the hard way. I’m simply devistated. It’s just still such a shock.

Woman #2: Need to pray, or talk about it?

Woman #1: Yeah. Yeah I do. Thanks.

Announcer voiceover (Morgan Freeman’s voice)

Announcer: Two out of every three young, long term couples end in a break up. Educate yourself. 1 Timothy 4:12 says, “Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” Call 1-800-BRE-AKUP for more information on godly, proper, and healthy dating tips.
