Sexual Harassment In The Mission Place?! What Happens In Mexico Does NOT Stay In Mexico!

This is a blog revisited! It’s an oldie but a goody! Hope y’all enjoy, and I hope God speaks to you. I also hope if you’re a woman, and you’re dressed in a manner that draws attention to yourself, you’ll run and change clothes after you’ve read this!

Most people would say, “Lo que sucede en México queda en México!” For all you non Mexican-speaking folks that’s, “What happens in Mexico stays in Mexico!” However, as you all know, nothing that happens to, or within earshot of me is sacred!

One would naturally assume that, if one was on a mission trip, with other like-minded people, they’d be in an environment free from sexual harassment right? Yeah, well think again! I guess a human being’s feelings emotions can get carried away no matter where they are!

We’d just finished doing a medical clinic and were all exhausted! In our way back to the casa, we had to stop by a store to pick up a few things. There were a few of us who decided to stay on the bus. I’m sure it was those of us who’d worked the hardest, and were the most tired! And maybe that’s what caused this man, (who shall rename nameless) we’ll call him Perry to do what he did? Maybe men are more like women than we think! Maybe when they’re (men) tired they become more emotional just like we women do?! Or maybe it’s that I was having a really good hair day, and I had on cute scrubs, I don’t know! I just know that, when I figure out what it was, I’ll never do it again while on a mission trip!
I was sitting in my seat, minding my own business, resting my eyes, daydreaming of being in my bed! Naturally, for me anyway, my thoughts became verbal and I said, “I can not wait to get in my bed!” And that’s when it happened! Perry, who’d apparently been paying me more attention than I’d realized, blurted out those fateful words, “I can’t wait to be right there with you!” There were audible gasps from the others, while I sat in silence totally shocked!
There’d been no indication that Perry had been inclined to this sort of behavior. I’m usually keen to this sort of thing, but apparently I’d missed the mark with this one! When Perry realized that he too had audibly verbalized his thoughts, which was inevitable with all the gasping going on, he bagan to profusely apologize, but the damage had been done. However, being that we were on a mission trip, I figured that satan would use anything, even my good hair and cute scrubs, to distract us from doing The Lord’s work. So, I forgave him. I did, however, tell Steve as soon as he got back on the bus! Plus, I tried to tone things down a little for the rest of the trip. After all, the bible does say, in Romans 14:13, “We must make up our minds not to do anything that will make another Christian sin.” Lord knows I’m not one who wants to cause anyone sin!

Ok, so I may have embellished that a tad. Except for the good hair and cute scrubs part! Ok, OK, fine then! Perry never actually said he wanted to get in my bed! Don’t judge! We all embellish at times. Besides, I was merely making a point! All joking aside, ladies, we should never dress, or act, in ways that could remotely cause any man to look at us inappropriately! The only man we should try to entice should be our husbands! Save the sexy outfits for home! Here’s some free advice. We ahould never stop trying to look good for our husbands! A wise man once said, “Lingerie was created for women over 40, because everything looks better with lace wrapped around it.”

Ladies, we can look good without dressing provocatively. Let’s be good examples for those girls and ladies who may not know Jesus! Cover up those things that should be covered! Don’t wear clothes that are so tight nothing is left to the imagination! Modest is hottest! But, should a man stumble simply because you’re having a good hair day and wearing cute scrubs?? I’m fairly certain that’s ALL on him! 🙂

And I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes. 1 Timothy 2:9

  1. Christa, as a team leader on all Mexico Missions, I have found this particular blog offensive to the nature of what God and Mega is called and commanded to do. In all cases when the total truth is not quoted, it is then a lie. Knowing the character and fruits of the supposed character that seems to be talked about, has left me bewildered. How embarrassing to suggest these half truths. It is well known in the hearts and minds of Christians and overall in the human spirit, that the things we see in others are always those things with which we struggle with ourselves. This situation tends to lean in that direction. Try and exam this one more time and then try make an honest non-destructive blog about what we try to do in connection to our mission. Thanks!

    1. Johnny, Momma always said, “Bewildered is as bewildered does!” The things stated in this blog were true. I only embellished the part about my scrubs being cute! The great hair part was totally true, as were the quotes from “Perry”. The intentions of said quotes are objective :-).
