Green Thumb Granny And The Marijuana Mishap

A long, long time ago a couple friends of mine decided they would go away for the weekend. Again, to protect the not so innocent, names will be changed. I’ll call them Lenny and Jim.
As most people, when you go away, there are certain things you might have to ask people to take care of. For example, to look after your home, or check your mail. You might even ask someone to keep your pet, or your children. In this instance, they asked Granny if she would take care of their plant.

Of course Granny, being the sweet little holiness woman that she was, had no earthly idea that the plant she was babysitting was a marijuana plant! All she knew was that, like the rest of her plants, all it needed was Granny’s special TLC. Needless to say, Lenny and Jim went on their weekend trip, with peace of mind, knowing their plant would be well taken care of.

The weekend came to an end and they headed home. They decided to go home and unpack before stopping by Granny’s to pick up their prized possession. As they drove by her house, they spotted something that caused a definite change of plans.

Granny was quite the horticulturist. She knew that all plants needed a little sunshine to help them grow properly. She had that marijuana plant, in all it’s glory, basking in front of God and everybody, on her front porch! A front porch mind you, that just happened to be visible from a very busy road!

The horror of the thought of Granny being thrown in the slammer for growing pot! Needless to say, they did a U-turn, went back and picked up their beautiful, green, luscious, extremely healthy plant. That was the best return on their ‘crops’ they’d had thus far, and they laughed all the way home! And they weren’t even stoned.

This here, my friends, is a lesson on being in the world, but not OF the world. You can’t just bury your head in the sand and stay ignorant to what’s going on around you. Because, just like Lenny and Jim used Granny’s ignorance to get her to take care of their pot plant, the enemy will use yours to get you to sin. The devil is a liar and a deceiver, and he’ll trick you into sinning, before you can bat an eye, if you aren’t careful.

The best way to beat him at his game, is to know God’s word! I’m not saying you have to memorize tons of verses, just read the bible! Every day, in some way, take in God’s word. Don’t like to read? Then listen to it, on tv, radio, your phone, however you listen to things. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

Don’t walk around in this bad world being ignorant. Pay attention to what’s going on around you. Be careful of the things you watch on tv and the music you listen to, those things matter. Trash in, trash out!

It’s a whole lot easier to be fooled by the enemy when you have no idea what God expects of you. The bible is still relevant today! Read it, take it in, and live it out! Surround yourselves with like minded people to hold you accountable, and for the love of all that is good and holy….if someone asks you to take care of their plant, make dang sure it’s not marijuana!

*Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The Devil is poised to pounce, and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Keep your guard up. You’re not the only ones plunged into these hard times. It’s the same with Christians all over the world. So keep a firm grip on the faith. The suffering won’t last forever. It won’t be long before this generous God who has great plans for us in Christ—eternal and glorious plans they are!—will have you put together and on your feet for good. He gets the last word; yes, he does. 1Peter 5:8-11 The Message
