Danger! Run Dummy RUN!

Boundaries. For some people, such as myself, the concept of setting boundaries is a tough lesson to learn. My personality is such, that I want to jump in with both feet, no matter what the situation. Whether it be a relationship, an idea that pops into my head, or the latest diet fad. (Ok, so it’s been a long time since I’ve tried the latest diet fad. Whatever.) “They said it was good! It must be good!” “They seem like a nice person! Surely they’re a nice person! Right?” Um….not always! Thus the reason it’s so important to learn to set boundaries, and think before you act.

My dogs have the Petsafe system, they can’t get out of their set boundaries. It’s pitiful to watch when you first put the collar on them, how they’ll tear out running, all happy go lucky, tail wagging, ears flopping; all is right with the world, then BAM! They hit that boundary and get the crap shocked out of them! At that point they’re yelping like crazy! Then they quickly start running back to the place where they don’t feel pain. They learn really quickly that when they hear that warning beep, it means turn, and run the other way!

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve jumped into a situation, only to run back yelping! You drink too much, you get sick. You do drugs, you make bad decisions. You steal things, you embarrass your family. You jump into relationships only to find out they’re way crazier than you! The list goes on and on!

I wish there was a a Humansafe system, with a device we could wear, that would shock us when we got outside our boundaries! However, if you’re a believer, you have the best warning device ever created! The Holy Spirit! You just have to learn to listen for His beep, so to speak I had to learn the hard way to listen for the beep. The Holy Spirit is gentle. He won’t shock us. If we get shocked, it’s because we’ve refused to heed His warning! Gods Word, and the Holy Spirit gives us everything we need to live a shock-free life!

I’ve learned that, despite my personality I can set, and keep boundaries! I can’t do it on my own mind you, but if I allow God to have control over the situations, and relationships in my life, it’s possible to hear the beep.

You don’t have to be an intelligent person to be wise (thank God!). True wisdom and maturity comes from The Lord. And contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to be older to be wise either! You can ask God for wisdom at any age, and He’ll give it to you! It is possible for young people to make wise decisions! I wish I’d understood that when I was younger. True wisdom comes from a relationship with Christ! Get to know Him! Get in His Word! No matter what age you are, if you get nothing else from this blog, please get the fact that we are NOT wise without God!! In fact, I’m really dumb without Jesus! Get this too! God wants good for you! His rules, and His boundaries are for our safety! Christians DO have fun! With Jesus in your heart you don’t need to be high! With Jesus by your side you don’t have to settle for just any relationship! He wants what’s best for you! Trust Him!

Live life to the fullest! Have fun! Love with all your heart! But DO IT WISELY! And do it all the way God says to do it! Don’t settle for anything less than what God has for you! Don’t frolic along blindly, only to get the crap shocked out of you, so that you’re yelping back. Listen for the “beep” of the Holy Spirit. And when you hear Him, do what He’s telling you! If He says run? Then run dummy!

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. James 1:5

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise. Psalms 111:10

“I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. So be as wise as snakes and as harmless as doves. Matthew 10:16
