This blog was written by a good friend of mine. I love sharing what God is doing, and how He’s speaking in other people’s lives. This is such a great example of how God uses everything to teach us, and how He takes our sin, and bad experiences to mold, and shape us! Isaiah 61:3 says this, “To all who mourn in Israel, he will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness, they will be like great oaks that the Lord has planted for his own glory.” He trades in our nasty stuff for beauty! He washes us white as snow and makes us smell so sweet! Because of Jesus, we can be good!
Who loves going to the dump?? ME! No, not really! No, not really. Just kidding, I mean, I’m really kidding! It’s almost the worst experience ever! Had it not been for the fact that God spoke to me so clearly, I would mark the dump down as THE worst place in the world! Does it seem like I am somewhat passionate about how bad the dump is? How many times can I say the word dump in this story! Let’s get to the Good stuff, I mean The God stuff !! OK here goes….As we climb the mountain, and I do mean mountain of trash, to get to the top of the heap, I immediately noticed what an incredible view there was from this awful place! You really can see so much, and it was so beautiful! I am such a scenery person. Well naturally, I took in this gorgeous view (from inside the truck). As I proceeded to open the door, to get out…OMG, the stench that permeated is beyond description! I can’t describe it. You’ll just have to take my word for it! At this point I had made up my mind that I was going to get this job done, and get it done as quickly as possible!
I jumped out, jumped into the back of the truck, and apparently became Superwoman! Just the fact that I jumped is a miracle! Before my husband, Kent, could get the trailer untied, I had the back of that truck completely unloaded! I mean, lickety-split! All I kept thinking was, the quicker I get the truck unloaded, the quicker I can get back in the truck, and try to recover from the rot I had been marinating in!! When I had finished my part, I jumped in and slammed out the stench! Finally! Now, instead of taking in the beautiful scenery, I was taking in all that was going on at the dump.
I noticed how the workers were using big machines to get big piles of dirt, and cover up the garbage. God spoke so clear in that moment! He showed me what a representation of sin this was! No matter how much dirt the workers put on all the trash, it still smelled horrible, and the garbage was still there! There was such beauty at the top of that mountain, but I couldn’t enjoy it because the smell was so bad! All I could focus on was the smell and all the garbage. That’s just exactly how it is when we hang on to sin! We can’t enjoy life, the way we should, because sin stinks! God has so much for us, yet we trade it in for trash. Let go of your sin! Repent, look around, and enjoy the beauty God has for you.
